Are you feeling challenged in today’s market? Is the job situation and the slowing economy getting the best of you? Through out our life we have ups and downs. Sometimes we go through periods or situations that are bizarre to say the least. When individuals feel that they can’t control what is going on they experience fear, almost panic.
This can be a cause for major stress. Examples that create stress are an argument with a friend, divorce or losing money, such as in the current market.
People like to know which direction they are going toward to feel safe. They want to have control over their destiny. Currently many do not see our current economic situation that way. Right now we are seeing changes occurring in our country and in the world. What can we do?
The best thing to do is not to join the people that are looking at what is going on and getting stressed. This transformational period is a real opportunity to reassess your values. Take the time to look at your strengths so you canstay positive until the current conditions improve.
Learning to manage stress is a three-part process:
- Identify the symptoms
- Learn the skills to manage it
- Learn how to use those skills
Quality questions create a quality life. People that remain calm ask better questions and get better answers. Example: Is my self-talk scaring me or helping me?
Here are some suggestions.
- What can I learn from this situation? Keep an open mind.
- If your self-talk is negative, change it.
- Identify what you say to yourself.
- How can I change my focus?
- What changes are necessary to help my life move forward?
- How are other successful people dealing with the economy?
Keep a positive attitude. It’s a real stretch to smile when things are going wrong. Letting negative emotions take over only makes the situation worse. If you focus on the positive side, you’re more likely to find a way out. A positive attitude can become contagious, making it easier to live and work with others.
If you focus on the things that are going wrong they get bigger. Stop worrying about what everybody else is doing. Look at what you can do to restore peace and balance in your life Relax and focus on the things that are important and that you can control.
People send out different unconscious messages when they are stressed. Ask yourself what can I do to create positive changes in myself and others.
We are in difficult times but you still have choices. You can move forward and deal with your stress or tread water. Which do you choose?
Claim your peace.
